Hi, I’m Dr. Jessica Poulsen.

I am a clinical psychologist, licensed in both the states of California and Massachusetts. I provide psychodynamic therapy to individuals and couples via telehealth. I see teens, college students, and adults of all ages who are experiencing anxiety, depression, relational issues, grief, life transitions, family of origin issues, identity development, and the impacts of trauma. Of these concerns, I specialize in developmental trauma, college students, and anxiety.

Prior to private practice, I provided individual, couple, and group therapy to undergraduate and graduate students for several years at different universities, including most recently at Boston College and the University of Rochester. My professional training has also included working at a variety of settings, such as a community mental health sites and a VA, which have given me a rich understanding of clients’ various backgrounds as well as provided me with specialized training to support clients with various presenting issues (such as trauma therapy for combat veterans and survivors of sexual assault). Throughout my years of professional training, of working with clients, and of navigating my own journey, I have learned that, fundamentally, we are all just doing the best we can. I’ve also come to realize that doing the best we can is often based on what we have learned from the past and does not always help us live the life we want. Whatever you come to therapy for, my goal is to be fully present, curious, and compassionate to how your past is impacting you now (both positively and negatively), to understand how your ways of relating to yourself and others may have once served a particular purpose (for example, to keep you emotionally and physically safe), and to support you in living a more meaningful, connected, and centered life.
